Traffic crisis looming in NDG

NDG councillor Peter McQueen says that he’s grateful for the monthly MUHC good neighbourly meetings, with Transport Québec, the STM, the AMT, City of Montreal planners, police,

and borough representatives and residents all in the same room.

“It’s a good way to get answers and try to coordinate everything,” he said at the June 25 CDN-NDG borough council meeting.

Gazette transportation reporter Andy Riga has said that come August, new sewer work and Turcot construction will cause traffic turmoil in NDG.

Effective coordination is needed, says McQueen. “We’re planning some $10M worth of sewer work on de Maisonneuve, Sherbrooke and Northcliffe in the coming months starting in August through to June 2104. At the same time, Transport

Québec wants to rebuild the St. Jacques overpass over the 15, which they say might start this fall. But it seems a little less certain, and I urge them to perhaps delay until the spring,” he said.

The councillor is also concerned about the bicycle

path on

de Maisonneuve, where the borough has installed posts.

McQueen is still convinced that a bicycle bridge and path behind the Vendome metro station is needed to get the cyclists out of the way, with all the sewer work and new bus lanes adding to the confusion. “Now that the train detour is done, there is that possibility, so I urge our interim mayor to consider that option,” he said.
