NDG - Action Communiterre presented its 10-point shopping list for local candidates in the Nov. 3 municipal elections. The community organization is hoping for services to continue and improve under the next borough administration.
Number one on the list is that municipal financing for various activities in urban agriculture be increased or maintained at the current level, as well as continued participation from elected members in their fundraising activities and campaigns.
Among other things, the community organization is seeking support to improve accessibility to private lands, as well as incentives such as property tax reductions to landowners in order to facilitate urban agriculture in private spaces.
Communiterre also wants the new administration to explore the possibility of lending its vacant lands or building roofs to their members in order to start new gardening projects.
Other requests include a kitchen facility that meets health norms and standards for community events and workshops, as well as the borough’s support to locate land for a garden in the St-Raymond area.
Communiterre promotes food security and healthy lifestyles through community gardening and intergenerational cooking workshops using a community model that aims to break social isolation and build stronger communities.
