More than 800 students from the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) were in attendance for a special day-time regular season Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Women’s Hockey game on November 19 when the Concordia Stingers hosted the Carleton Ravens at the Ed Meagher Arena.
Students from nine schools took part in this pedagogically themed field trip: Royal Vale, Willingdon and St. Monica in NDG; Elizabeth Ballantyne and Edinburgh in Montreal West; Coronation in Côte des Neiges; Gardenview and Cedarcrest in St. Laurent; and Perspectives I High School in St. Michel. Concordia lost 2-1 in a shootout, but the students had a fabulous time. Autobus Transco sponsored this event, which kicked off a new program aimed at creating a consistent link between the university athletes and local schools that extends beyond an annual hockey game.
Student athletes from multiple Concordia teams will join EMSB students throughout the year at a variety of in-school and after-school activities and events. Pictured above, NDG-Montreal West Commissioner Joseph Lalla and students perform the opening faceoff.
