According to Genesis Project, The last Leitão budget cut by half the money allocated to developing new social housing, going from 3000 housing units financed by the AccèsLogis program to 1500 units. On the other hand, the federal government continues to terminate subsidies that it has been giving for decades to existing social housing and that helped reduce the rent of low income tenants. Those measures will have a major impact of Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood. Federal and provincial governments must commit to maintain those subsidies but also to invest in new and existing social housing.
Genesis is recruiting campers! More than a hundred people, poorly-housed individuals, activists, as well as homeless people will be mobilised. On the camp, all sorts of activities are organised and opened to the public.
The Camp for Housing Rights is starting Thursday May 21th at 3 pm just after a national demonstration at Dominion Square.
